The New York Times Features Tim Epstein in Two Recent Sports Law Articles

Timothy Liam Epstein, Chair of Duggan Bertsch's Sports Law practice group, recently received a lot of press for his position as counsel for Enes Kanter, a star recruit from Turkey whose eligibility remains in question. Kentucky’s national title hopes could hinge on the freshman center. Pete Thamel’s New York Times feature “Questions Linger on Recruit’s Eligibility,” published on October 12, 2010, discusses the N.C.A.A.’s task to determine whether the money Fenerbahce, a top team in a professional basketball league in Turkey, gave Kanter was, according to N.C.A.A. bylaw 12.2.3.2.1, more than actual and necessary expenses to participate on the team.

Timothy was also featured in another New York Times article entitled “Leaving the Locker Room for a Law Firm,” published on November 5, 2010. The feature discusses former athletes who after leaving sports decided to become attorneys. Timothy explains, “Athletes have a natural attraction to legal careers. Especially with litigation, you have the opportunity to continue in a competition just as you had when you were participating in whatever your particular sport was.”
